Spruce Kings 5 Chiefs 1

The Prince George Spruce Kings used a dominant third period to break open a close game and defeat the visiting Chiefs 5-1 Friday night.

It was the first game of the season for both teams.

The Spruce Kings led 2-0 after one period of play on goals 76 seconds apart by Nick Bochen and Nicholas Poisson.

Chiefs forward Kevin Wall scored the only goal of the middle frame to make it 2-1 after two periods.

The Spruce Kings put the game away in the third scoring three times while outshooting the Chiefs by a margin of 20-5. The goals came from Nolan Welsh, Ben Brar and Sam Kozlowski.

Mathieu Caron went the distance in goal for the Chiefs, turning away 37 Spruce Kings shots. Logan Neaton made 15 saves to earn the win for the Kings.

Chilliwack was 1/4 on the power play and 4/6 on the penalty kill.

The two teams meet again Saturday night in Prince George.
