Express down Chiefs 5-1

Alex DiPaolo scored once and added an assist to help lead the Coquitlam Express to a 5-1 win over the visiting Chiefs Friday night.

The loss was the fourth of the season for the Chiefs who fell to 9-4-0-0 on the season. The Express improved to 9-5-0-0.

The Express started the scoring with just under two minutes gone in the first period.

Alex DiPaolo was the goal scorer, deflecting home a point shot for his seventh goal of the season.

Four minutes later Coquitlam doubled their lead.

After a strong fore-check by former Chief Regan Kimens, Dallas Farrell found himself alone in front and beat Chiefs netminder Mathieu Caron for his fourth goal of the season.

After twenty minutes the home team led in shots by a margin of 11-9.

The Chiefs got within one at the 8:07 mark of the middle period. From the left boards Ethan Bowen found the reigning BCHL Player of the Week Skyler Brind’Amour in front of the Express net. Brind’Amour’s backhander beat Kolby Matthews for his third goal of the season.

A double minor for high sticking to Chiefs forward Harrison Blaisdell led to the Express regaining their two goal lead. Chase Danol was the goal scorer, beating Caron for his seventh goal of the season at 11:23 of the second period on the power play.

An early third period goal by Danny Pearson made it 4-1 before Kimens added a power play goal late to make the final 5-1.

Final shots on the night favored the home team 32-22.

Chilliwack finished the game 0/6 on the power play and 3/5 on the penalty kill.

The Chiefs are back in action Saturday night when they host the Surrey Eagles. Game time is 7pm.
