Chiefs down Rivermen 5-4

Kevin Wall scored twice as the Chiefs defeated the Langley Rivermen 5-4 in Langley Saturday night.

The Chiefs improved to 14-6-0-0 on the season while the Rivermen fell to 8-8-1-0.

The home team opened the scoring on a goal by Keyvan Mokhtari at the 4:33 mark of the first period. Mokhatari fought off a check in front of the Chiefs net and knocked a loose puck past Chiefs goaltender Mathieu Caron.

The Chiefs answered back when Harrison Blaisdell took a pass from Carter Wilkie and drilled his twelfth of the season past goaltender Braedon Fleming. The goal came at the 10:47 of the opening period.

In the second it was Wilkie finishing off a nifty three way passing play while the Chiefs were on the power play. Assists on Wilkie’s second goal of the season went to Brent Willits and Matt Holmes.

After a goal by Ethan Leyh tied the game at two it was Chiefs forward Skyler Brind’Amour striking while shorthanded to put the Chiefs back up by one. Brind’Amour caused a Langley turnover just inside the Chiefs blueline before carrying the puck the length of the ice and snapping his fourth of the season past Fleming.

With 3:37 left in the middle stanza Kevin Wall finished off a give and go with Harrison Blaisdell to score his 14th of the season and give the Chiefs a 4-2 lead after two periods.

Wall’s second of the night came with 9:33 left in the third period. Taking a pass from Matt Holmes on a two on one, Wall rifled his league leading 15th of the season past Fleming to make it 5-2.

Langley’s Trevor Ayre rounded out the scoring with a pair of goals with 4:30 and 1:28 left in the third.

Caron made 35 saves to earn his league leading 14th win of the season.

The Chiefs are back in action Sunday afternoon when they host the Cowichan Valley Capitals. Game time is 2pm.
