Chiefs Acquire Maine Committed Goaltender Szyszka

The Chilliwack Chiefs have acquired 2004-born goaltender Lucas Szyszka from the Des Moines Buccaneers of the USHL.

The 6’2 netminder comes to Chilliwack with a commitment to the University of Maine. Szyszka, a Westmont, IL product, played 27 USHL games during the 2021/22 season, earning a .856 save percentage.

“We are really excited to add Lucas to our organization. He is a very highly regarded goaltender who we know will help solidify the position for us. We look forward to helping him develop his game in preparation for his next step at Maine,” said Head Coach and General Manager Brian Maloney.

Szyszka played two games at for Team USA at the 2021 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, playing alongside Casy Laylin and Austin McNicholas.

“I’m super excited to be a Chief. I’ve only heard great things about the organization, town, and the fans. I’m excited and thankful to be a Chief and look forward to helping bring many wins in the future,” said Szyska.
