The Chilliwack Chiefs are pleased to announce the signing of 2004-born goaltender Frank Murphy for the remainder of the season.
Murphy, a Mississauga, ON native, has played with the Islanders Hockey Club this season in the National Collegiate Development Conference of the USPHL.
“Frank is joining us from the NCDC and is arguably the best goaltender in that league, and his numbers back that up. He’s excited to join us and ready for the challenge ahead,” said Chiefs Head Coach and General Manager Brian Maloney.
In 27 games, the 6’3″ goalie has posted a 19-5-3 record, a .933 save percentage, and five shutouts.
“With Hockey Canada putting us in a position where we’re unable to call up or bring in young prospects to develop them, it has put us into a situation where teams in our league are carrying a larger rosters.”
Last weekend, goaltender Cole Savage joined the EHL’s Worcester Railers Junior Hockey Club.
“We were able to find Cole a place to play where he will play a lot of minutes and games so he can continue to develop and get ready for the next chapter of his life,” Maloney continued. “That has put us in a situation where we needed to find another goaltender to come in and not only help us win hockey games but also support the two goalies that we have here and be an insurance piece in case we lose a goalie. Unable to call up a goalie or trade for one after February 10 has put us in a position to carry three outstanding goalies.”
